Kem Marks | Just In Time Legal

Marks is a graduate of the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor, with dual Bachelor’s degrees in English and Communication. She received the degree of Juris Doctor from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Marks was recently named one of B-Metro magazine’s 2020 Top Women Attorneys. She has also been featured as a legal expert in articles appearing nationally in CNN, Real Simple, and Best Lawyers 2021: Family Law Edition. Marks and her journey to becoming a first-time entrepreneur were featured by Jean Chatzky in a full episode of the HerMoney podcast on iTunes. Chatzky is the financial editor of NBC’s TODAY show.

Prior to launching Just In Time Legal, Marks served as the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel of the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport ("BHM”), Alabama's largest airport. In this capacity, Marks reported directly to the Board of Directors to lead and manage the legal activities of BHM. She also served as its Corporate Secretary.

Highlights of her tenure include initiating a winning appeal to the Alabama Supreme Court on a significant point of law, negotiating BHM's first agreements with ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft, successfully resolving FAA matters in favor of the airport, and serving as an invited panelist at meetings of the American Bar Association’s Forum on Air and Space Law and Airports Council International-North America’s Legal Affairs Committee. Marks was also outside counsel to the airport for the $201.6 million terminal renovation.

Before being recruited by the airport, Marks was an equity partner at a large law firm. Marks has been involved in representing Fortune 500 companies, hospitals, public corporations and other clients in the federal and state courts of both Alabama and Florida.

She has held memberships in the American Bar Association, Corporate Counsel Women of Color, the Association of Corporate Counsel, and the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM). Marks is a Sustainer member of the Junior League of Birmingham, after over 10 years of active membership and community service. Marks was in the Inaugural Class of Leadership Hoover, and was elected to the Fellows of the American Bar Foundation in 2016.
